JOHN CARROLL HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCES NEW FACULTY

FORT PIERCE – John Carroll High School is proud to announce that Ms. Jessica Greisen, Mrs. Mary Preston, Mrs. Amy Rainis and Mr. Amorce Jean Baptiste will be joining its faculty in the 2019-20 school year.

Greisen has been teaching for nine years and will be teaching World History, World History Honors and AP World History. She is coming to John Carroll from St. Joseph Catholic School in Stuart, Florida, where she most recently taught middle school history. Greisen is a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She is certified in social studies and has a gifted and ESOL endorsement. She said she “believes in setting high expectations for students and nurturing them so they reach their fullest potential.” Greisen resides in Vero Beach and is engaged to marry David Kratzer in October.

Preston has been teaching for 36 years, primarily within the Archdiocese of Miami and the Diocese of Palm Beach. She will be teaching Algebra I and Algebra I Honors, as well as English III and English III Honors. She has a Bachelor of Arts in History/Comprehensive Social Sciences from Ohio Northern University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She is certified in Integrated Curriculum and History and completed advanced coursework in mathematics from Upper Iowa University. Preston was the principal at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Homestead for 12 years and at St. Joseph Catholic School for seven years. She said she feels “teaching is not just a career, it is a vocation. All students deserve the opportunity to become their best selves, and it is up to the teachers of each student – parents, teachers, and others involved in the student’s life – to create an environment where that is possible.” Preston has been married to her husband, Brad, for 37 years, and they have four children and four grandchildren.

Rainis graduated from Gonzaga University with a major in Special Education and a minor in Theater. She taught Special Education for four years and theater for two years before becoming a full-time mom. She will be teaching Drama at John Carroll. Rainis and her husband, Mark, settled in Palm City in 2009 with their two children, Molly and Nate. Molly will be a freshman at John Carroll and Nate is going into the sixth grade at St. Joseph Catholic School. Her love of theater led her to establish a Drama Department at St. Joseph. She has directed five junior musicals throughout the past five years, and she established a Junior Thespian Troupe with the International Thespian Society two years ago. She said she is “very proud that the new troupe has participated in district and state festivals the past two years, earning numerous excellent and superior awards.” Rainis said she hopes that all her students will learn to love all parts of the theater, on stage and off, as well as creating an environment where they can nurture their talents.

Jean Baptiste has been a teacher and professor for over 10 years. He taught mathematics in his native country of Haiti from 2007 to 2015 before teaching in the Martin County School District from 2017 to 2019. He also taught at Indian River State College. He will be teaching Geometry, Geometry Honors, Algebra II, Algebra II Honors, Precalculus Honors, and AP Calculus AB and BC at John Carroll. Mr. Jean Baptiste holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Pure Mathematics from the State University of Haiti, as well as Master’s Degrees in Applied Economics and Mathematical Modeling from the University of the French West Indies and Guiana. He said he “believes that every child is capable to succeed when being exposed to the right learning experience and feedback that builds their self confidence by focusing more on their potentialities and strengths and less on their lacks and weaknesses”. Jean Baptiste has been married to his wife, Martine, for five years.

“We are overjoyed to welcome Ms. Greisen, Mrs. Preston, Mrs. Rainis and Mr. Jean Baptiste to the John Carroll family,” said Corey Heroux, John Carroll High School principal.
