FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

John Carroll High School celebrates two National Merit Scholarship semifinalists

FORT PIERCE – John Carroll High School is proud to announce two seniors were recently named as semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.

John Carroll seniors Lauren Richards and Noah Perez were the only high school students in Fort Pierce to receive this recognition.

Of the 1.5 million entrants, approximately 50,000 students who earned high scores on the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise. More than 16,000 of those 50,000 students are then notified that they have qualified as semifinalists, representing less than 1% of high school seniors in the United States.

“I am very honored to have received this award,” Richards said, “and I want to thank all of my teachers who helped me to achieve my score.”

Richards is undecided on a major but spoke highly of the engineering and science fields. Perez hopes to attend Ave Maria University to study philosophy and theology.

“My trust in God, more than hard work, helped me receive this honor, and for that I am entirely grateful and honored,” Perez said. “I am thankful to Christ and Mary for their goodness and to my family and teachers who helped me accomplish this.”

Principal Corey Heroux recently announced the news of Lauren and Noah’s status as National Merit Semifinalists to the larger school community.

“Lauren and Noah’s  determination in their studies and their outstanding academics were deservingly recognized at the national level, and we could not be more proud of them,” Heroux said. “We look forward to seeing what their futures hold and how they fare in the next step of this prestigious competition!”
