Important Evacuation Information for all John Carroll Parents

Evacuation letter from St Lucie County Oct 2015.pdf

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We recently received a reminder from the St. Lucie County Department of Public Safety and Communications regarding emergency planning for the nuclear power plant. We would like to inform you about evacuation procedures in the event that an emergency occurs at the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant located on Hutchinson Island.

In the unlikely event of a General Public Action, Private and Charter schools may be evacuated. Parents are not to go to schools to pick up their children. St. Lucie County Public Safety & Communications, in coordination with the school district, will issue press releases to local news and television media as to the location and time of pickup of children for the schools that have been evacuated. The normal pickup location for St. Lucie Private and Charter Schools will be the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds, 15601 West Midway Road in Fort Pierce.

This information comes to us from Mr. Kurt D. Myers, Radiological Emergency Coordinator. His number is 772-462-8100 should you have further questions. The Department of Public Safety would also like to remind you that having a plan and being prepared is of utmost importance and that a review of your emergency and evacuation plans will assist us all in being better prepared in an emergency.

Please discuss these emergency procedures with your child or children so that they are informed. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
