John Carroll High School is proud to announce Stephen Gabin as its new Band Director. Gabin, who is the Band Director at St. Anastasia Catholic School, will be working for JCHS before school hours and will continue his role at St. Anastasia as well. Mr. Gabin will be assuming his role at John Carroll in the fall of 2018.

Mr. Gabin received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from the University of South Florida and previously received an Associate of Arts Degree with focus in Music from Indian River State College. While attending IRSC, he was Principal Saxophonist of the Wind Ensemble and Lead Saxophonist in the top Jazz Ensemble.

“We are excited to announce the hiring of Mr. Stephen Gabin as the new Band Director. Mr. Gabin’s wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for building a quality music program at JCHS will be a wonderful addition to our arts department,” remarked Mrs. Corey Heroux, incoming Principal.

During his first year attending the University of South Florida Mr. Gabin received the Dorothy A. Smith Scholarship, which was selected through audition, plus receiving the Most Outstanding Rookie Award and the Most Outstanding Woodwind Award for USF’s Herd of Thunder Marching Ensemble. He also became Principal Saxophonist of the Symphonic Band Ensemble at the USF.

Mr. Gabin is a member of the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA), and Kappa Kappa Psi Alumni Association, where he previously was the Vice President of Membership of the Kappa Tau chapter.

“The process of making music is the product of its education. Being able to find ways to connect students with various learning styles to come together and create something magical is an amazing opportunity. This is why I am dedicating my future to becoming a music educator,” remarked Gabin. “My job as an educator, first and foremost, is to teach any student that steps foot in my classroom. I will try my upmost to create an enjoyable learning experience for all students engaged in music. I will also strongly encourage creativity and find ways to help the students challenge themselves in developing their creativity even further.”
