Kairos Retreats

The Kairos Retreat is a longstanding tradition at John Carroll, inspired by the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits and patron saint of educators.

This four-day, overnight retreat takes place at Our Lady of Florida Spiritual Center in Palm Beach Gardens. The center is home to the Passionists, a religious order devoted to prayer and meditation, with a special focus on the Passion of Christ as the ultimate expression of God’s love. During the retreat, students stay in private rooms overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway and are provided with three meals each day.

Kairos is a graduation requirement for all seniors. To accommodate students’ busy schedules, three retreat dates are offered each year. Dates for the 2026–27 school year are listed below.

The cost of the retreat is largely subsidized by the school and generous benefactors who support the mission of Catholic education, especially the spiritual formation of students. Juniors receive sign-up information in April, and spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who do not select a date will be assigned to the next available option.

The Kairos Retreat has also been offered for over 40 years at our sister school, John Paul II Academy in Boca Raton—a testament to its lasting impact and value.

Our hope is that every student who attends Kairos will encounter Christ in a deeper way—through prayer, reflection, community, and a greater understanding of how to love others and be loved in return.
